Yes. Tmobile usa is a GSM network and requires a SIM card to connect to the network

Hey the video worked great; however, I changed from Verizon (didn’t have SIM) to at&t (does have SIM) and although the phone is now unlocked and I can get on the internet, my old Verizon phone# is still showing on the home screen of my BB Storm 2 (9550) even though at&t SIM card now inserted. I am also getting an Invalid SIM Card Error message under the Advanced Options>SIM card menu. By the way, the at&t SIM card works fine in the at&t phone I took it out of.
I can not get the windows to enter the code when i type MEP2 nothing happens please help!
@Thayoungdancer ok Gsm is off but the phone is already unlock go to OPTIONS/ MOBILE NETWORK/ NETWORK TECHNOLOGY and change that to GSM
If i do this to a Verizon blackberry storm thats listed stolen will it make it usable for verizon?/ please awnser!!

So if I bought a Blackberry storm off ebay and it is already unlocked do I still need to go through this process? Or do I just put a sim card in it like say from boost or verizon or any? I never dealt with this unlocking before always had sprint. Also do you purchase used cell phones? I have a ton.. always get a new one each year or less.. blondkelly1013@yahoo.com

Yeah but I got it from a relative who bought it new and had verizon then they switched company’s. I doubt anyone has tried to unlock it.

You can use any SIM card to do the Unlock. You need a sim in the phone to get the MEP2 prompt. If your phone is already unlocked (look at what it says to the right of network in the SIM card menu), you wont get a prompt. If your “network” = “Disabled” the phone is unlocked.
Disabled = Unlocked
Active = Locked
Blocked = Not unlockable (all attempts have been used)

Someone Used all the attempts to unlock the phone. Nothing you can do. Its only a verizon phone now.

do you need a Verizon SIM in the phone if you wanna unlock it? because I did the process you showed in the video and after I typed in MEPD nothing showed up, Is the problem being that I don’t have a Verizon SIM card in it?

For any of your data service to work you need to:
1. Have a Blackberry Plan from your Service provider
2. Manually install GSM service books on your phone for your provider.
(The default service books are loaded on the CDMA portion of the phone) and configure your APN settings.
To manually load service books, you need to have a computer, usb cord and the handset to connect to each other.

Yes, it will work. The phone can be active or inactive, or never activated in fact!
I am about to order my unlock code – I have a question…. I am currently w Tmobile – I purchased a Verizon BB Storm but do not have service w Verizon… Will the unlock code work if the phone is not activated? Thank you
